CHEMO DUCK STORY

Just after his first birthday, Gabe's mother, Lu Sipos, made the very first Chemo Duck for him. She thought he could use a companion to take to the hospital, one with whom he could share his journey back to health. Chemo Duck turned out to be a best friend and much, much more!

Together, Gabe and Chemo Duck learned all about living with cancer and explored what cancer treatment means to a small boy and his Duck pal. Gabe learned not to be afraid as he took loving care of his Chemo Duck and treated him for cancer of the beak. Gabe administered a series of aggressive beak brushings and several rounds of Play Dough Chemo to his sick playmate.

Both Chemo Duck and Gabe finished treatment in November 2003, and have remained cancer free since.

Lu Sipos continued to make Chemo Ducks for all of Gabe’s friends. She eventually started a non-profit business called “Gabes’s My Heart” to help get Chemo Ducks out to children all over the U.S. so they could learn about their cancer treatment.

Gabe Sipos earned his Doctorate in Duckology (the study of Duck Cancer) from The Three Bald Buddies University in December 2003.

One Day Dr. Gabe will find a cure for cancer. Until that day, he asks that you help him to make sure all of his friends get Chemo Ducks to help them through treatment!
